GEORGE WAYNE COCKLEY
George Wayne Cockley, 93, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Messiah Lifeways.
Born February 23, 1926 on a farm near Brandstville, Monroe Two., he was the only child of George E. And Erma L. (Morrette) Cockley. He was the widower of Doris J. (Minnich) Cockley.
Wayne graduated from Mechanicsburg High School, Class of 1943. He then served in the U. S. Navy as a Signalman 2/C on the USS Casablanca, CVE 55, in the Pacific from 1944 through 1946. On March 15, 1947 he married Doris J. Minnich.
He was retired from the Ships Parts Control Center, Naval Supply Depot, Mechanicsburg with 38 years of service. After his retirement, he worked part time for 10 years at the Book of the Month Club and volunteered at New Hope Ministries Food Bank.
He was a life long member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Churchtown and held life memberships in the Boiling Springs VFW Post 8851 and the American Legion Post 109, Mechanicsburg.
Surviving are two sons: Jeffery of Mechanicsburg and Randall of Lemoyne and a daughter: Julie Cockley of East Stroudsburg, PA.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Friday, October 25, 2019 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 325 Old Stonehouse Road, S., Boiling Springs, PA, with the Rev. Deborah l. Brumbaugh officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
