JOSEPH T. RONAN, SR.
Joseph T. Ronan, Sr., 87, of Shippensburg and formerly of Carlisle, Mt. Holly Springs and Martinsburg, WV, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.
Born August 28, 1930 in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Harry and Mary G. (Nickel) Ronan. His first wife, Donna J. (Eckrich) Ronan preceded him in death on April 10, 1984.
Mr. Ronan was retired from Asplundh Tree Expert Co. where he was a foreman on a tree trimming crew.
He was a graduate of Carlisle High School. Joe then honorably served his country in the US Army during the Korean War, receiving two Purple Hearts for wounds.
In addition to his parents and first wife he was preceded in death by a sister: Rosemary Jumper and six brothers: William, Nelson, Raymond, David, Jacob and Franklin; two sons: Robert and Steven and a stepson: Gregory Walters.
Surviving are his wife: Bessie Helen (Myers) Ronan; a son: Joseph T. Ronan, Jr. of Everett; and three daughters: Peggy Jo Bowman of Shippensburg, Sheryl “Denny” Snow of Vermont and Kristen Lechene of Martinsburg, WV; Stepchildren: Claudine Bond of Mt. Holly Springs; Jeffrey Walters of Biglerville and Peggy Cloud of Lakeland, FL; a brother: Ralph Ronan of Indiana and a sister; Lilly Diehl of Carlisle;12 Grandchildren; 20 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild; 8 Step Grandchildren and 9 Step Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 11:30 A.M. from the Ronan Funeral Home, 255 York Road, Carlisle with the Rev. William E. Pipp officiating. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery will full military honors. Viewing will be at the Funeral Home on Friday from 11-11:30 A.M.
