This is the story of Mary Mae (Young) Deitch. Mary was a wonderful woman that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished. Our ‘Grandma’, as she was called by her grandchildren, was an amazing wife, mom, daughter, sister, aunt and a baker of pies like no other could be.
Mary’s story began on December 17, 1922. She was born to Clarence and Clara (Zell) Young in Carlisle, PA. Mary grew up with twelve brothers and sisters.
She was 24 when she married the love of her life, Lester R. Deitch on May 8, 1946. Lester and Mary spent many hardworking years running the Carlisle Radiator Shop, their family business.
Mary was renowned for her baking skills, especially her delicious pies. She always had requests from family, friends and even the local fire company that kept her busy baking. All her life, she was an incredibly hard worker. Even in her late 70’s, Mary continued to clean for the ‘elderly’ who all became a part of her family.
Mary’s family especially the grandchildren were her heart and joy. Time spent with ‘Grandma’ was always fun and special.
Mary had an extreme love of God and her church. Mary was gentle, kind and generous. She only could see the good. She was genuine.
Loved ones who have cleared the path for Mary are her parents; husband Lester; son Allan; sisters: Grace Myers, Esther Throne, and Martha Walker; brothers: Donald Young, Norman Young, and John Young.
