Roy L. Coover 85, of Carlisle, PA passed away suddenly at home on Monday October 7th, 2024. He was born in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania on July 13th, 1939, to the late Arthur S. and Violet M. (Raudabaugh) Coover.
Roy was a 1957 graduate of Cumberland Valley High School receiving the Keystone Farmer Degree in 1957 and the American Farmer Degree in 1960. He was a lifelong farmer taking over the family dairy farm after graduating from high school. In later years, he worked as a janitor at Carlisle Syntec, and was employed as a security guard for Assets Management and Weiser Security. He was a member of the Carlisle First Church of God and Valley Grange #1360 Lewisberry and was actively involved in the Cumberland County Dairy Princess Program for many years.
Roy enjoyed working on the farm, hunting, and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Janice M. (Shank) Coover, his parents Arthur and Violet Coover, one brother, Paul Coover, and three sisters Ruth Coover, Jean Frederick, and Della Wing.
He is survived by his children, two sons Douglas W. (Cheryl) Coover of Carlisle, Samuel R. (LeAnne) of East Berlin, one daughter Darlene R. (Richard) Greenwalt of Mechanicsburg, two sisters Treva A. Grunigen of New Jersey and Arlene F. Howard, York, seven grandchildren Jedidiah D. (Micah) Coover, Abigail E. (Aaron) Elliott, Rebecca S. (Galen) Hoover, Benjamin M. (Cayla) Coover, Nicholas R. (Rachael) Coover, Alexander Q. Coover, Erika L. Coover, nine great-grandchildren Elijah, Hannah, Judah, Nechama, Colleen, Ronan, Elena Rae, and Malakai Coover, Ezekiel Elliott, and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Roy’s Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday October 14th at Carlisle First Church of God, 705 Glendale Street, Carlisle with the Reverends Michael Poe and Greg Hench officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday October 13th from 6-8 p.m. at Carlisle First Church of God. Burial will be Monday, October 14th at 10:00 a.m. in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill, PA. Funeral procession will form at the Ronan Funeral Home, 255 York Road Carlisle on Monday at 9:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church, Carlisle First Church of God, 705 Glendale Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.
