WILLIAM F. MENTZER, SR.
William F. Mentzer, Sr., 85, of Boiling Springs, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2011, in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Born April 28, 1925 in North Middleton Township, he was the son of the late Harvey S. and Myrtle E. (Brymesser) Mentzer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Lena M. (Anderson) Mentzer.
A retired farmer, Mr. Mentzer took great pride in farming his land for more than 50 years. After retiring from active farming, he worked for several years at the former Leo’s Dairy, Carlisle.
He was a 1942 graduate of Boiling Springs High School, where he was active in the Future Farmers of America. While he farmed, he also participated in the Pennsylvania Game Commission Farm-Game Co-Op.
Mr. Mentzer attended St. John’s Lutheran Church, Boiling Springs, for the majority of his life and served several terms on the Church Council.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Anna Baldwin and Betty Mentzer.
Mr. Mentzer held a lifetime passion for farming and a love for all animals. A kindhearted man and devoted husband and father, he is survived by four children: William F. Mentzer, Jr., and his wife Joan of Lebanon; Jeremiah L. Mentzer of Mechanicsburg; Dorothea S. “Dor” Adams and her husband Albert “Jack” Adams of Boiling Springs; and Cristine K. Schroeder, wife of John D. Schroeder of the Poconos; a sister Mary Shughart of Carlisle; six grandchildren: Laurie K. Mentzer of Middletown, Jeffrey D. Mentzer (and wife Angie) of Monrovia, Md.; Danielle M. Archulet (and husband Sean) of Lynchburg, Va.; Jaclyn G. Adams of Sterling, Va.; Andrew W. Adams of Boiling Springs; Elias J. Schroeder of the Poconos; and a great granddaughter: Presley R. Archulet of Lynchburg, Va.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 11, 2011, at the Carlisle Evangelical Free Church, 290 Petersburg Road, Carlisle, with the Rev. Shad Baker officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be held at the church before the service on Friday from 1-2 p.m.
